Who is Roopa Design: I am Roopa Basu, a British designer of Indian origin located very centrally in London near Battersea Park. I was born 1979 in South Shields. Having been appointed by P&O as a Merchant Navy engineer in 1976, my father, a marine engineer in India, migrated to the UK. I was brought up in the UK, in England and Cork, Northern Ireland, until the age of 6. When my father went to work for a global shipping company operating in Asia, Africa and Japan, we shifted to India. My childhood memory of holidays is full of living in ships, port after port in the world! I completed A levels from Calcutta International School. When I was 19, as a student at Calcutta School of Music, I was once playing the piano at a performance at the US Consulate. After the show, to my exhilaration, the reputed American musician Dr Douglas Weeks, a visiting pianist invited by the US Embassy in India, came up to me and offered me a scholarship as a concert pianist. This unexpected break took me to the Brevard School of Music in North Carolina for the summer where Dr Weeks taught at summer school, aside from his being a fulltime faculty member at Converse Music College, South Carolina.

As a child while living in India I had displayed exceptional prowess with Lego toys, and was even crowned the child prodigy in building blocks! I decided to further explore my Lego factor now by studying Architecture at Philadelphia University in Philadelphia. However, I soon found that I had outgrown the fascination with buildings, and really did not connect to this profession. So I changed my stream and transferred to Communication Arts and Design at Virginia Commonwealth University. This is where I discovered my true passion and vocation. Highly inspired by British design at the turn of the century, I decided to return to my country of birth armed with the good professional grounding I had acquired in my 6 learning years in the US. To further strengthen my skill and competence I acquired a Master’s Certification degree from the London College of Communication.

The international exposure I’ve had from childhood, in the UK, India, travelling on ships to different countries, and living in the US, all combined to give me a keen appreciation of the behaviour of different peoples of the world. Along with my understanding of multi-cultural societies, I have engaged myself headlong into creative communication design. The outcome has been Roopa Design in London. We are a small team, creative and agile, with meticulous understanding of every aspect in communication design. That is why we also respond very fast to our clients’ varied requirements of design.

Our expertise: Communication visual art design, typography, illustration, layout, artwork ready for print, mock-up, image correction, design and delivery as per requirements of different media, from print to digital media.

Budget:  We always provide a detailed customized costing proposition with an itemised break-down of different items and services offered. We start the project only when we have the customer’s approval on this.

Quality guarantee: We deliver with global standard creativity, with a stringent quality control system, and high execution for the best industrial reproduction.
